Exclamation 380 or 420 engine

When I purchase my 1982 380SE the seller told that he had an exchange engine & transmission fitted.
He also said the engine No on the 420 had been changed to the same as the 380. How can I tell if my motor is a 380 or a 420 ?

380 engines 116.961, 11.963
420 engines 116.965

the engine number is on the l/h side of the block, not exactly sure of its location on a 116.
