Unhappy 87 260E alarm help....

Hi,

When unlocking the car from the driver door, the alarm goes off when opening the door. The door is unlocked, but the alarm doesn't get disarmed.

What do you suppose the problem is?

thanks....

It's probably the door lock.

Do you have that problem with the passenger's door or the trunk?

Both of my W201 cars do the same. I almost exclusively unlock my 190D from the trunk. It almost always sets off the alarm from the drivers door.

I anxiously await the answer. I hope it can be a DIYer.

My car was doing the same.

The solution in my car was to replace the door lock. I tried to lube the door lock before changing it. However, it helped for a little but, after a while, it did not work long term. Too bad the keyless entry was not an option back then.
You have three choices:
1. Take the lock apart, check for broken parts and/or lube it. (cheapest)
2. Change the lock ($$$ from MB) or,
3. Install a keyless entry/alarm like it was discussed in this forum before, so you will not have to use the key to get into the car. (update the vehicle)

The metal used in the lock is poor quality therefore, the problem.
Good luck!

I do not have an alarm system on my 1989 260E and it was not an available option for the 260E model. Maybe it was in 1987 but I'd be surprised. Maybe your system is an aftermarket installation.
So solutions sugessted for later (better equiped 300E would not apply here.
Good lock (luck)

For JackD,

Did you read the whole post? Am I missing something? My car is a 300e but it is a 86...

Talking door lock '87 260E

My car came with auto door locks w/ alarm from the factory. I'm not sure if it was an option or standard feature.

I spoke to my mechanic and said that it would cost $$$ to get it replaced.

I will try to disassemble and lube...
