Thinking of buying a 380SEC....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1860114464
There it is... my favorite MB coupe in my favorite MB color...Diamond Blue Metallic. I love blue interior too I will probably go and take a look at it tomorrow or Friday. I've thought about these things... # 1 ! -> The Single-Row Timing Chain... so i open up the oil filler cap, and if the gear has oval holes it has double row .. and if it has round holes then it has single... 2. Rust 3. The power seats work perfectly? 4. All windows and sunroof work? 5. Seatbacks lock? (Do they work on vacuum too like the 123?) 6. All switches work? 7. Transmission shifting? (Do these cars shift better than a 123 - which I think shifts pretty smoothly) 8. Clunks... 9. Leaks.. 10. All lights work? That's all I could think of right now... any more input? BTW, I searched for 380SEC and all I found was the timing chain issue... heh.. Thanks!

Listen for wheel bearing noise. If you here it out the window, it`s the front bearings. Not too bad to do. If with the windows closed, and leaning your head towards the rear, it`s the rear bearings. It`s a $ 1,100.00 job. Just had it done on my 560 SEC.

I looked at it and drove it around the parking lot (the guy said it was too late for a test drive...).
The windows work but they got stuck at the top(probably didn't get used in ages). However they worked great after that. The sunroof worked great The driver's side seat wouldn't move forward/back not up/down.. Rust...faded paint A/C barely worked (the pushbutton unit looked like the culprit and wasn't cold either even though the compressor did work) engine was oily, dirty, brake fluid dark, etc. some weatherstrips falling off The steering was really tight though and so were the brakes. The Transmission shifted into gear nicely. However if I put it into R straight from D, it would get into gear really really hard. The car was big and so soft over bumps... the rear kinda bounced..(not good news I'd think). The V-8 was powerful, smooth, and started right up! maybe because I am used to a diesel heheh... I think I'll pass this time... on the way back I saw a pristine, perfect, perfect, black/black 560SEC! Now I want an SEC so bad!

heheh well I guess mechanically everything does work except for the driver's side seat.
Today as I went to my mechanic, I came across a 1994 E320 Coupe..... he let me drove it around the lot and I immediately fell in love with that car!!!!.... The M104 is such a smooth powerplant... and the ride, the way the solid W124 body feels... everything... I've been missing something driving the old diesel hehehe... I might consider the E320 ... but we'll see.

Holson,
If you want to buy a REAL 560 SEC, you can buy mine for $ 40,000.00. I just won 1st place at the Germanfest Car Show on Sunday. I beat Bob Hatch, who had the same car as mine with 5,900 miles. He wants $50,000.00 for that car.You can buy the car that beat him for $40,000.00 ! John |
