Question W126 - #15 fuse continuously blowing

Since yesterday afternoon, my #15 fuse is blowing every time I drive the vehicle. #15 controls the central locking system, aut. antenna, center dome light, rear dome light, rear reading lights, and the trunk light. I noticed this morning that as I opened the trunk to grab my laptop, the light cut out while raising the lid, which, evidently, blew the fuse. Fortunately, I have a dozen spares, or so, but I will quickly run through them unless I get a handle on this. Any ideas?? TIA.

If the light went out while you were raising the trunk lid, that is when the fuse blew.

Does it only blow when you go in and out of the trunk?

Try leaving the trunk closed for a few days to see if it blows, or replace the fuse and open and close the trunk a few times to see it it pops. I don't know how the trunk light wiring is routed, but you may have a pinched wire in the routing.

Good luck

Thanks for the response. I suspect there is something fishy with the wiring. Last winter the trunk light would cut in and out intermittently. I fixed it by fiddling with the wires.

open the harness at the flex point by the hinge, odds are it's frayed.

joe p was correct. Had an opportunity to investigate yesterday afternoon. Peered back at the wiring and noticed some stray copper wires piercing through the braiding. I opened it up, mended the wiring, and taped. So far...so good.

This circuit also includes the lamps under the door? I've been having this issue with my #15 fuse and my trunk light seems OK, but my driver's side door lamp is a bit loose....

I have a problem with one of my "door" lamps.... they all work, but one of them dangle from the door, like the screw holes are busted. I have not had time to investigate.

Good to hear you got it repaired!

Just a quickie followup: I yanked the driver under-door lamp after the housing melted (!) and shorts on that fuse are now gone.
