I'm still up after my all nighter (Have to go to work at 6AM) 83 240 D made it home. How do I replace speedometer? I have new one in hand. Problem is unlike conventional cars, don't see any screws, or seams in dash that reveal a path to the console box.Second problem is previous cars I owned didn't matter if I did it like amateur. I want to do this the professional way. |

First you need to remove the speedo cable from trans then you need hooks to remove instrument housing then you can replace speedometer.

What you need to do is disconnect the oil pressure line from the engine side. Remove the underdash panel beneath the steering wheel. Disconect the speedo cable by inserting your hand behind the speedo. Dislodge the instrument panel by pushing with your hand from behind.

All you have to do is push on the back of the console from underneath, and that should give you enough room to disconnect the several cables, electrical and otherwise, from the back. There are screws on it for the three pieces of the console. It's an easy repair after getting the thing out of the dash.
