I am getting about 12mpg (city/highway average) in my 74 450SLC. I realize it is a heavy automobile, but that seems awefully low. Any others have numbers for similar models ?

Your mileage sounds about right. I have a '76 that I keep in tune myself can squeeze out 180 per tankfull so you're doin' better than me (I hot-rod a lot).
