What is the proper idle speed in a '99 SLK230
w/ 5 speed. Mine hovers around the midpoint between 500 and 1000rpm, while sitting at a traffic light. Sometimes, not all the time, it idles rough and I can see the needle jumping very slightly and the car shakes a little with it. My question: Is this normal??
Would like to find input from other SLK owners. Mileage is 2100 miles.

Thanks,

I have heard some talk of this. Have you talked to your service advisor about this yet? There could already be a bulletin on this.

That condition doesn't sound normal. My '99 doesn't idle roughly (1100 miles). There is some discussion about idling in an SLK discussion board at: http://www.InsideTheWeb.com/messageboard/mbs.cgi/mb486455

This is one of the reasons M.B. has stayed away from importing "stick-shift" cars for last 6 years. It is very hard to certify emissions on stick cars & still have them idle & run good on 1st gear acell. I've driven cars from BMW & other manufactures W/stick trans & noticed the same "lean" mixture feeling, esp at idle.
