When replacing pan gasket, should the gasket be sealed to the pan with a special sealant or just use grease as per the manual?

In most cases the grease is used to hold the gasket in place w/installing pan, but on some newer models sealer is required to assist the gasket. What car are we talking about?

I have seen the Permatex High Tack Spray product used with good results. The way I do it is to spray the pan and the side of the gasket that seals to the pan. Then let them sit for about 5 min and tack up. Stick the gasket to the pan and grease the other side and bolt it up. Do not over tighten the bolts for it might crack the gasket.
