dashboard noise - 1992 - 190E 2.6

Behind the glove box is a noise that is not related to the heater fan. When the car starts, the noise comes out.

In a recent test I heard the noise, switched the key to the first set (radio on) and the noise stopped. When I moved the key to position 2 (engine could run - all dash board lights on) the noise returned.

With the noise - the inside of the glove box is vibrating.

What's your thought?

I have same car, same noise. My guess: ventalation system drier fan, prevents odors from water buildup inside ducts. Mine's noisy.

Let me know if you find out something different...

thanks

My guess is it is your aspirator fan motor. They start to get noisy when they go out.

It is located next to the glove box and behind the passenger side air vent.

It's purpose is to blow air up through the "A" pillar, through your head liner, and out the vent next to your sunroof. The temperature sensor is up there for your HVAC system to tell your system what the temperature inside the car is to dictate whether to blow hot air or cold air.

Aspirator noise

My '88 260e is also making a noise from behind the glove box and I already suspected that it was the aspirator fan. I have not taken a look yet but I checked for air coming out of the little grille by the sunroof switch and found nothing. My climate control system seems to be operating a little off too. It doesn't get as hot as it used to.
