Eric, I asked the same thing a while back. You can't disable
or isolate the steering lock (see archives)
also ome other member used a dremel tool to cut into a tubler, he wrote about it on a past post, use the archives.

Bummer, I bet you are strapped for time and must rely on
a loksmith etc.
