W140 coupe door panel removal
Hi Guys,
I am trying to pull the door panel off so that I can replace a speaker grill on a 1994 S600 coupe. I have got the four screws off from under the storage compartment and have poped the outside plastic clips off. There seems to be something holding it up by the door handle. I have attached a pic of the door. If anyone could help it or has some information it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, 600 sleeper |

door panel
If your coupe is like a s320 there are two clips that rotate up on the rear of the power seat switch panel. I just took a butter knife and inserted between the leather panel and the switch panel and carefully advanced upward. the two clips will rotate up and allow for the switch panel to pop out at the rear and you can remove this panel and allow access to the door handle bolt which is holding you up. Good Luck with project.

Here's what I did
Billymueller's advice sounds good. I didn't know that so just pulled the panel loose at the bottom and sides, enough to slide my hand behind with the little "speed nuts" on the tip of a finger and used feel to find the posts on the speaker grille then pushed them on one at a time. I used a little sticky glue to hold the nuts onto the tip of my finger. It worked but my wrist got scratched some.
Good luck. Ray |

Even that door is beautiful.
Did you look in the DIY section above for clues? The W124 door "check strap replacement" article tells how to remove the door panel for that car. There may be some similarity. The W124 door handle is pretty much bolted to the door. I expect your coupe's handle is well attached also. When you pull the W124 panel, you have to take off the little knobs for the seat controls. I noticed they are still in place in your photo. |

There's a hidden . . . .
felt covered recess that holds the main door screw. Must remove it. The arrow shows where it's located: right near the junction of the storage panel cover and the burlwood trim.

Thanks
Thanks guys,
I got the new grills on with out taking the door off. I tried to put them on before without taking the door off before but I could not push the retainer clips on with my fingers. So I ended up taking a couple of nuts taping them together and put some double sided tape on the end to hold the retainers. Then I was able to push the retainer clips on with the nuts. The new grills look better then the old ones with holes and the car is back in tiptop shape. Thanks again, 600 sleeper |
