Center vent stuck?

Can someone please tell a new owner of a thirty year old 350SL what happens to the center vent? For in my case it just blows fresh air all the time... the lever seems to not work... move it left or right same result I have searched other posts but have not found a specific thread. Thank you in advance for any help this site is the best ever. Ernie 1972 350SL 20K miles.

Ernie,

If you car is the same as nearly all others that people have posted about, the center vent in the rear only blows fresh or chilled air (with AC on of course). It does not provide heat.

The lever you are referring to should close it for winter time use. If it doesn't then the linkage is disconnected or broken somewhere. Since mine is working properly at the moment, I haven't had the opportunity to tear things apart to know how to fix it...yet

THANKS MUCH JEFF

I thought it might be linkage...and thanks for the reply (first time post) Now I am wondering how best to tackle this. I think I might acces linkage from glovebox...I hope...any ancient 107 tech give a guy a head start on what to tear into? This car is more than 30 years old and I am afraid to crack brittle dash parts, everything looks new and unmolested and I want to fix everything correct. The car is kind of a time capsule.
Thanks again Jeff
