Need Help On Resistor

Hello,

I have this resistor in the wire, but does not know much about resistor and function. If 12Volts car battery go in - resistor - what come out ?? volts?? watt???

This is a 24Ohm resistor with +-10% tolerance and can fail 0.1% of every 1000 hours of operation.

From a 12V battery, if we use V=IR we get 0.5Amps of current coming out of the resistor.

Voltage remains constant unless there is a voltage drop through the resistor.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I studied electronics for a few days in order to figure out a circuit for a class not related to electronics at all.

This appears to be a 1/4 Watt resistor at high magnification, and if you connect across 12V, it will draw 0.5X0.5X24= 6 Watts! Briefly.

Don't hold it in your hand while you do this, because it will quickly become incandescent, then - if the flameless type of metal film resistor - it will turn color and die.

What did you need to use it for?
