Is there an upgrade to and auto-up feature for the front windows on 98 CLK's? The button has two detents as if it could support an auto up function and the 2000 CLKs now have that feature.

The 98-99 CLK's only had an auto down feature on the front windows. It seems MB added the auto up feature on the new 2000 CLKs. However, the window buttons on my car have two detents going up and down which means maybe all that needs to be changed is the software?

The 98-99 have express down only (both windows). The 2000 have express down both windows and the passenger side also has express up (not on the drivers side). Would be intersesting to know if the 98/99 could be changed to express up on both windows.

Dealers have the ability to program the control module, but it's against the law due to the fact there isn't any safeguard. On the cars w/auto up there are protections built in the system so that the windows won't smash your hand.

There are some aftermarket window lifters and express down modules if one is interested and they work terribly well with no problems at all.One is available which would do express up and down in pairs and cost around $40-$50 range.

The dealer indicated to me that the auto-up feature is only intended for the cabs. There is a poster at another board who found he had the auto-up feature on his '99 CLK430 after a maintenance visit to the dealer. Seems they updated the firmware and forgot to disable that feature.
