wandering woes?!??

Well I love my 190D but I just don't know if I can take it any more!
First of all let me tell you every thing I have replaced steering wise; Idler arm bushings, Draglink, Steering dampener, Front struts, Steering gearbox, Rear outer controll arm bushings.
I have cheked many times and I cannot find any slack in the steering or any weak links.


Anyways, after all of this money and hassle, my problem still is not fixed!!!!
My car is easily affected by wind and it seems to wander every where. It is literally a hard job to keep it between the lines. I have read the posts about rear subframe mounts, but mine seem to be ok, they are not collapsed or anything. It really dosent seem like the problem is in the rear (I have been wrong before).

I have almost lost my love for mercedes benz, I have driven ford escorts that drive better than my car does now.

If anyone can give me some advice I would really help me out.

With every used Benz I buy, I make it a first priority to replace the front and rear sway bar bushings. They are easy to do on your car and not expensive. You get an immediate result of flatter handling in turns and less sensitivity to cross winds.

Wandering can also be a direct result of a bad alignment. Who did your last alignment? Did they use a spreader bar? I will ONLY go to a dealer for an alignment now.

Check your front ball joints. Replacing this fixed the wobble I got when cars flew by me when I was stopped.
Wrong tire inflation can elevate this problem too.

I agree with Haasman. I replaced the front swaybar bushings because it was an easy, inexpensive job, and I was replacing motor mounts, tranny mount, and all exhaust hangers - so why not. Old bushings didn't seem particularly bad, and I didn't notice lean in turns. The one single thing I immediately noticed with the new bushings installed was that the car tracked straighter and was less affected by crosswinds - surprised me a bit.

Also. if the front tires have wear from a previous misalignment, they may cause your problem. Swap front to rear to test.
