Question The car regular maintenance

I read many articles about the importance of conducting regular maintenance for the car.
Can you people tell me what are the things to consider and how often? (for example, how often to change the fuel pump, fuel filter, automatic transmission filter, spark lights ....etc).

Many thanks.

auto trans filter? never knew it had one??
spark plugs, depeneds on what type of plugs you have, i.e. copper or platinum etc.
you should check your owners manual for this.

i also need to know how often should the manual transmission oil and differential oil be replaced.
also, the manual states to use "90" gear oil in the diff.

now i have some Omega 130 in the garage... would it be ok if I use this? reason being, I know for sure this oil is v. good, but i'm not sure if it will do any damage if the viscosity doesnt match?

thanks

This may be a little old fashioned but, here is my recommendations for an older than a mid 90's benz.
Minor service every 5000 miles including:
Check all your fluid levels and top up as needed.
Oil and filter. (Other say every 3000 your call)
tire pressures and tire rotation
Check suspension (Ball Joints)
Check your brake pads.
Check all your lights

major service 15000
the above service plus:
new plugs
check gases and adjust your lambda accordingly
new air filter
lub the door grease nipple and the door and trunk seals
new fuel filter
Valve adjust if applicable

Major service 30000 plus fluid flush
the above 2 services plus:
New transmission fluid and filter
new powersteering fluid and filter
Drain the Antifreeze (both radiator and block) and refill with new
drain and renew differential fluid
clean the brake resevoir and flush the fluid
Replace Filter and flush hydraulic suspension

I am sure I missed some stuff but here is a good start

Well people, i'm have very little knowledge in cars , so please bear with me
Where's the powersteering filter located?
What's the differential fluid? and where's it located?
Is there a schematic diagram that shows such parts? or maybe a picture for the engine that can make me visualize that.

Martin, your maintenance tips were more than great They're really good guidelines.

[B]what is the lambda?

We, in North America refer to this as Air/Fuel ratio.

Perfect combustion ( what the cars computer tries to achieve ), is when you feed 14.7 lbs of air, combined with 1 lb of fuel into the engine.

In Europe they call it Lambda.
Lambda 1.0 = A/F ratio of 14.7

A leaner Air/Fuel mixture would show as Lambda, let's say 1.03 = Air/Fuel ratio of, let's say 15.5

The other way around, for rich A/F could be Lambda 0.98 = A/F ratio of
13.9.

These are rough examples, but I hope you understand " Lambda " a little better now.

Where's the powersteering filter located? usually on the front right looking at the engine from the front of the car. Altohogh I am not sure for your specific model. Filter is in the pump at the bottom.

What's the differential fluid? and where's it located?
the differential is in the rear of the car if you have rear wheel drive the axles will run into it and the drive shaft join it.

I would recommend you by the manuals on cd they are available on ebay or mercedes directly.

hi there:

can I ask how do you:

check gases and adjust your lambda accordingly

??

Also I note you guys say 5000 miles, 15000 miles and 30000 miles.... these seems to be a very long way as out where I am at, we use Kilometers and we were told to do things ar 5000 km and 10000 km.... does these things have a date stamp as well? like 10000 km or 12 months which ever come first??

to check gases it should go to a shop they can do the lambda to although you can do the lambda part yourself search duty cylce there are a lot of good threads.

fluids at least every 3 years execpt oil. This should be done at every 3-5000 miles or six months.
