C230K "Check Engine"

My uncles C230 Kompressor had the check engine light on for a while now and on the way to the mechanic today we were sitting at a light and all of a sudden we hear the sound of a little motor in the back of the car come on for about 10secs then when it shut off, right away the check engine went out. We told the mechanic and he said its a "purge problem"

How serious would this problem be? Car is running like new and with the check engine on or off, it was no difference.

I would not consider this to be a real problem.
If it happens again, you may want to replace the canister purge solenoid.

Just had my C230K serviced for "check engine" and was told the system is very sensitive. My problem was evidently caused by either a loose gas cap or an over fill of gas.
