Transmission codes for 91 SL300,

I have a 91 SL300 with tranny problems, it feels like everything inside is binding and tightning up. I cant drive it. Is there any way to get the codes from the connecter under the hood? Ive done this before with my soft top and I got all the codes to fix it. Im hoping I can do the same for the trans. Any idea what it could be anyway? Anyone ever had one rebiult or know where there is a good place to have it rebiult. Im in South East Ma. Any info would be awsome, thanks. Rich

I know a bit about those trannies and I don't have a clue what your talking about from your description. Does the car go forward? Does it go reverse? If it goes forward does it shift ever?

What does binding and tighteninmg up mean? The connotation I get from this is that you are in two gears at once; probably due to reverse failure. If this is the case, it will have to come out and come apart.

The tranny is not electrically controlled except for 5th gear. No codes.

Steve. Yes it will move and then it feels like someone is applying the brakes. All wheels spin freely when I jack up the car and spin them. But when I put it in drive I have to rev up the motor and it will move and just tighten up to a stop. Reverse is the same thing. I have driven it down the street and backa nd yes it shifted . Even in park if I chuck a rev the car slightly moves forward. Any Idea? Thanks for your reply. Rich

Unfortunately I'll have to go with my first impression. Sounds like reverse clutchs have come apart.
