240 Autobox trouble
Hi everybody ,
Been having trouble recently with my 83 240 D transmision. It will when cold not shift until the highest RPM is met which is like pulling my finger nails out thinking that poor little motor has to run like that. Then when it gets warm it will sometimes work ok and then sometimes drop through the gears like very fast and at low rpm. I have 7 pounds of vac. at idle and 3 at a higher rpm is it tranny or is it a vacuum problem? It has 153,000 miles on it. Thanks ffor any help Burgenlander 240D 380SL 380SEl E300D ML320 Suburban |

Dear Burgenlander:
The first thing you should try is to replace the ATF fluid in your automatic transmission right away. I recommend that you use Valvoline Maxlife ATF which has worked as a miracle on my old Honda Accord's auto transmission (it has very similar symptons like yours). If the ATF fluid change does not improve your car's shifting behavior. Try to check the bowden cable and vacuum lines. Eric |
