Unhappy 280 stalling , ovp & fuel pump relay location

First time here glad to find this site, I have owned my 94 C280 for about 4 months love the car until lately, will just stall out of the blue, I have loss of accelleration first, asr light comes on , and about five second later it dies than won't retart for about five minutes, after that sometimes asr light comes on and stays on, car seems to stall more and more frequently now, just spent $600 having air mass sensor replaced, didn't help, mechanic than told me I should spray slider linkage maybe sticking, or may need to be replaced, said that was big bucks also said could be because of brand of gasoline (mobil) I used, have been reading threads and think I need to check ovp & fuel pump relays, where are they located on my car, in trunk or up front. thanks in advance for response

if im not mistaken, trunk location on W202. next to battery.

a search on "OVP" will return a boatload of info. possibly hard to sift thru, but a ton of info beats the s#it out of no info at hand.

I had a similar problem caused by moisture trapped in the fuel pump relay, but my car is 18 years old

I believe there is a single relay contolling both functions on the C280. Don't know where it is though (behind the battery on the W124 cars, but the battery is in the trunk on the C280....)

And of course the 94 will have the infamous biodegradable wiring harness, unless someone has already replaced it.

If I was a betting man I would say it is your OVP.....are the symptoms as follows;

Stalls out of the blue...won't restart straight away...leave it for 5-10 minutes and will restart and all will be fine etc etc. May also have a stumbling idle

If it is, its your OVP....the original relays had a design fault in them which results in the internal soldering breaking down and causing intermitent stalls....this will get gradually worse.

Sad to say that the expensive MAF replacement may not have been required....OVP relay will cost you about $60 and on my Right Hand Drive C280 its up by the ECU's on the right hand side of the engine bay. Silver relay about 3" high with a fuse on the top. Takes 5 minutes to replace.

Good luck
