It happend twice after sitting a day, when first moving the truck either forward or reverse I felt and heard a loud bang and the truck felt like it stopped ( of coarse I hit the brake so fast when I heard the sound), I then proceded to go again with no problem.It felt like either something in the rear diff. or like one of the back wheels applied the brake to it. Brake are all new, always maintained, no abuse given to the truck. Any similar problems or sugguestions. Runs fine. Thanks

I have a 99 ML320 also, and had a simalr problem a couple of times. In my case it was after I had washed the truck and then parked it in the garage overnight with the parking brake applied.
When I attempted to drive it the next day there was a clunk and the car didn't want to move.
I soon discovered that the parking brake had locked up overnight due to the mositure from the previoius nights washing.
Now when I was my ML, I either take it for a short drive to remove the hidden water or I don't apply the emergency brake.

Next time you won't be driving the ML for a few days, try parking it on a flat surface and don't apply the emergency brake, you might get lucky and have the same problem I did.

Thanks Todd, The e brake was not applied but it did feel like the right rear wheel may have locked up. It s at the dealer now but they usually don t find a problem if you can re produce it. Maybe I ll get lucky and they ll find something. I ll let you know.

They told me the rear brake pad de laminated from the backing. They replaced the rear pads (which had less than a few thousand miles on them).. and stuck to the rotor. I ll have to wait and see if it happens again.
