Key won't turn, Help!

'01 SLK320, I took out the dash and unpluged the module behind the dash (the one that hooks to the ring around the key) then put everything back together

Now the key will go in the ignition, the remote will lock and unlock but the key won't turn. Am I just stupid or what? It's in park and all modules are original to the car. This is my first Mercedes and I've only had it 5 days so please bear with me as I ask a lot of stupid questions.

Try to move the steering will around to make it as close as it can be to center it.. then try turning the key..hope this works..

LoL.. Was it because of what I said or what?

Hehe.. same thing happens to me sometimes when the wheel isn't straightened out..

argggt MERCEDES problems!!

Don't feel dumb..its not your fault that this happens:)

mercedes should've fixed the problem by now...happens on my 95 s500..

Would this happen with the special key's that have a cover on the metal part?

No special key. Just a flip out metal thing on a remote deal. I feel dumb because the fix was so simple yet I thought it was some special MB security thing.

same thing happened on my mom's volvo. I think a lot of cars do that if the steering wheel is under a lot of pressure.

Happens all the time on my 190e after my 5 year old daughter is done playing cab-driver while i'm cleaning the car.:D

It's amazing how kids can help uncover mysteries on Mercs!!!
