Engine Coolant Residue In Air Blower Compartment After Heater Removal

I have a W124 and had the heater replaced. It was leaking for some time before I had this done. Can anyone advise on how to access or how to best clean the
air blower "air mixer" box assembly to
get rid of the "eye irritating" engine coolant
residue that is left over inside? Does this require the removal
of the whole console or are there alternative ways?
