how do you stop the creak/squeak

does anybody know how to stop the creak/squeak/whateveryouwanttocallit from the dash? I have a '90 W126 and it seems to be coming from the edge of the dash, kinda between the dash and door. It definitely sounds like something rubbing against something else. ?????? I had a 1984 500SEL and it made the same noise. Is it just something with the W126. I've never had this noise on either of my W123's.

It sure would be nice to have silence when I had the radio off.

Common cause is the lower edge door trim rubbibg against the rubber lip of the plastic door sill guard (also known as the kicking plate).

I used a thin roll of padding, a strip of velcro pad (the non-hooked side), and pasted it to the edge along the entire bottom trim on all 4 doors and it has worked well.

I would suggest you try it on the affected door before doing all four.

Hope this helps.

Kenny

MB cars are just about manintenance free. because of this, with time thay develope rattles, squeeks etc . I have found out that a small amount of Amoral appllied where you think the noise is coming from just might help. Otherwise MB's are just cars (high priced) and are most noted for lack of sevice requirements, Thats not to say that you could not drop a few thousand at a dealer, but thats how they stay in business. I've driven my 97 almost 180K miles and and am amazed at the fact that the radio onlly works about 3/4 miles from the broadcast tower. In other words, if I want to listen to a particular program, I drive my Honda. Don't let any one kid you. The quality of MB is long time gone.

Unhappy squeaks in the car

One of the main reasons for the squeaks appears to be the rather hard materials used in the dash and the center console for my 1994 C180 Euro model. Also the front suspension is not as supple as the other Benzs as it uses the short type without the Macpherson struts, just like my very old Fiat 124. Have to be very wary going on rough roads as it shakes you up crazy! The chassis flexes too much also, therefore the plastic and metal structures inside rub against each other and creates the dreaded squeaks. The newer cars come with softer foam backed dash materials and centre console and should not be making any squeaks. The other squeak is my driver's seat belt which is making noises with every tiny move I make in my seat. The noise is coming from the centre pillar where the belt goes down to the locking mechanism. Can anyone help?
