1987 560sec Needs Hp

as all you enthusiasts know, these w126 cars were derated for the USA.

the euro's had ratings of 300 hp 333 ft lbs. the US versions were way down on horsepower and torque[238/287].

the chassis of this sec really wants that euro output.

my mechanic doesn't want to see me upgrade it, claims that it would conflict with dot/epa certification. is he correct?

and though i generally like to keep my benzes stock, my 97 s500c is so much more fun to drive with its greater output that i now am interested in restoring my 117 engines to the euro specs.

any opinions as to legality, practicality, and expense?

anyone out there made that restoration. if so, what can you tell us about the upgrade?

all ears.

I have an 87 SEC as well, I suggest you check out:
http://www.mbcoupes.com. The majority of the members have SEC's and their mailing list is very good.

There is an article on mbcoupes.com on a 5.0 liter M119 installation in a 560 SEC.

I think the guy's name is Satish.

He posts here under the name stummala.

That would be a nice project, wouldn't it?

Bergwerks is a shop here in Southern California that has done several conversions on 560 SEC's.
