The 10mm nut on my steering wheel won't budge. I'm using an 18" breaker bar and have already twisted off one cheap extension, with no success.
Any ideas? I'm no weakling...and I'm to the point where I'm afraid that pounding on the bar or such drastic measures might break something. I have the steering wheel blocked, and just can't make it budge. So frustrating after getting the airbag off without killing myself. Any hints? ------------------ Tom '87 560 SL '74 MGB |

Well here I go. Get a decent thick walled socket, go find a friendly gas station and ask them if you can either use or let them take a shot at it with an impact air wrench. If this doesn't break it free, then it probably will never come out and you'll need to see a dealer. If it remains stuck, you're probably looking at some sort of destructive drilling and the like. The air wrench has always helped with those difficult cap screws... Good Luck..

Jeff, thanks for the note. Actually, about 20 minutes ago, I found a long extension, rested the wrench on my shoulder as a fulcrum, and powered up with both hands. With a satisfying "pop" it came free.
Now I'm wrestling with the incredible maze that is the screws on the back of the dash assembly. Thanks for your help. ------------------ Tom '87 560 SL '74 MGB |
