Right gear oil?
Fella's,
Had my gear oil changed today after having done +170.000 km's. Shop poured 1.9 litres of this stuff: Mobil ATF Dextron 2 Any good? Thanks!

Vronsky,
If you're talking about an auto transmission, 1.9 litres is way too little. I seem to remember the capacity is about 6.5 litres. Check the level again using the procedure recommended in the handbook. Dextron 2 or 3 is fine for your transmission.

1.9 liters sounds like the right amount for the rear differential but Mobil 1 ATF is not used in Mercedes diffs. Are you sure they didn't use Mobil 1 75W-90? If not, that would be more appropriate for the rear differential.

I will not use ATF in manual transmissions unless it is specifically called for.
I had a '79 240D that would grind in 2nd gear right after I bought it. I was told the transmission was worn out and it needed a rebuild. I changed the transmission oil from ATF to the oil (I forgot the weight) that Mercedes called for, and it never had another problem. I drove it for over 85,000 before I sold it. Haasman
