I have a 1986 W124 230TE. The left sway bar has broken. When I get that welded on the right side breaks. Vice versa. Is there any end to this problem? It is costing me a fortune in new tyres and and the balance of the car is shocking.

Please help me!!!!

Also, id like to know if i can retrofit an inline cylinder from the 300 series of the same age into the car and if it is worth it.
Thanx

Is this the "spring" link on both sides of the front bar? This type of metal should not be welded!
Putting a 300E motor in your car would be easy if you have a complete drivetrain & radiator from it.

No, its a vertical piece of metal about 7 inches long and it is behind the wheel on the right and left. It is not a spring at all. This is what apparently keeps the car totally out of balance. My tyres are stuffed and it leans very badly when cornering.
Thanks for the help

MB doc said this is a spring LINK Link being the key word here. You need to replace these. They are not that expensive.
