1977 450sl replace exhaust system withdual set up

Whats the best way to replace exhaust system on 450 sl (1977) and remove catalytic converter. One suggestin use 1976 450 sl set up starting from headers. Any advice appreciated. PSWould the power increase be noticed? Thanks all, Abe G

The cataysts on SLs to 76 were part of the manifild assy. They wound up depositing the exhaust the same place stock 73-74 or 77-79 manifolds placed it. So a 76 exhaust from the cat back will hook to your manifolds. (and have no cats in it)

The cats in 77-79 were under the car is two pods before the exhaust went to the center of the car.

Surely if you remove the cat the O2 sensor will get a false reading due to decreased back-pressure?

No O2 sensors back then. They started in 1980.
