VIN Info

Help! If I have the VIN number of a Mercedes 1980 to 1995 - non US registered - where can I find infomation on that vehicle and model type? ie. is it manufacured to US safety specs and what was the exact date of manufacture.

In the US we call the home office of MBUSA in Montvale NJ. I'm sure that in Japan there is a simular headquarters. Any dealer should be able to connect you to proper source.

In the UK if go into the dealer with your VIN he can do a print out which gives all the original build codes for that car.This includes things like key,engine and transmission numbers.I have never been charged for this but I think it rather depends on your relationship with the dealer as it takes a few minutes to manually look up the codes!!
