Strange shifting when cold - help please

Hello again friends,

My 1984 500 SEL shifts a bit strange when cold. The transmission delays the shifts when cold and often flares as if there is not enough pressure applied to the clutch package. This happens only on medium acceleration and not on light or full throttle.

Once the transmission is warmed up it works fine (except that it downshifts a bit to quickly when I touch the gas pedal).

Some weeks ago I adjusted the pressure modulater a couple of notches clockwise which cured shift flaring when the transmission was warm.

Is there some sort of device that alters the shift pattern when the car is cold or is this just a matter of tuning the pressure and the bowden cable?

Thanks for Your help,

Mikael Westerberg
