Bowden and accelerator cable adjustment help

Hello Board,

I am trying to find out the relation between the adjustmend of the bowden cable and the accelerator cable. I want my car's kickdown to last a little longer and my gas pedal to be more stiffer(more responsive). Does anyone know how to accomplish this in a 300e??? I see both cables, but I do not know what directions to turn the cable adjuster.

Does anyone have a clue???

I did search, a lot of the posts had no replies, and the ones with replies were for newer model MB's, that is why I posted my question. I always search before I post.

The flexible bowden cable helps control when the transmission shifts. If it is disconnected or loose or out of adjustment, it will cause your transmission to shift too soon, thus making your diesel feel like it has no power. This cable attaches to the throttle linkage on top of the valve cover and is extremely easy to adjust. If you look closely, you can see this cable coming up from the right side of the transmission to the right rear side of the valve cover. Where it attaches, you will also notice a white nylon threaded adjusting shaft. You can turn it in to loosen the bowden cable or turn it out to tighten it. As with the pressure control rod on earlier models and various engines, you want the pressure on the bowden cable to engage just when the throttle starts to open. If you play around with the adjustment a little, it will become obvious how it works. Once again, you want the bowden cable to move "in step" with the throttle linkage - both starting to open at the same time and both reaching full travel at the same time.

Peace out.

Alfredo

Talking Therefore if you want it to shift quicker

Therefore if you want it to shift quicker then it is now turn the cable in its white nut so that the white threaded part on the side of the injection pump is shorter and the white threaded part of the cable on the transmission is longer. By making the white threaded part on the side of the IP shorter you are actually making the cable more responsive to Throttle movement; by making it longer, you are delaying the shift and making it less responsive.
