C230 brake question

Well, I'm ready to tackle another job with your help. I need to do a brake job on my '98 C230. Is it similar to other cars - I mean turn rotors, replace brake pads, etc. Is this a hard job? I saw brake pads such as Pagid, PBR, ATE(Teves), Textar. Can any of you experts give me some good advice about which pads to use? Since I'm doing the labor, I'd like some high quality pads that stop you fast and do not squeal. The original ones are very good although a bit messy, but I'll take it for good stopping power. Thanks for any comments you can give me about this job.

You don't generally machine the discs. They are cheap, so if they're worn, just replace them.

Question about doing brakes

I've gotten 55k out of OEM front pads so far, and they are down to probably 3mm of pad material, so I'm going to do them at my upcoming 120k svc. How do I assess the rotors? There is no warping that I can feel, and the "look" ok to me, based on the rears. What do I look for? A

Also, are Pagid and Textar both OEM?

Textar pads are OEM, the last set of front pads I bought from the dealer were basically Textar pads in a Mercedes box. Quiet and good performance. Pagid may be OEM, but I have heard (from my BMW and Porsche friends) that they squeak a bit, at least when new.

On the rotors, there is a minimum thickness (in MM) for the rotor that is stamped on the circumference. Measure with a micrometer (if you can find one, I eventually did find one in inches for about $15). Alternatively, the min thickness is about a mm of material less on each side of the rotor, so if the lip on one side feels like it is more than a mm thick, it's probably close to time to replace.

Just like any other car. I'd stay away from the Ate pads. Both Textar and Pagid are OEM suppliers.
