New Owner of 300TE help needed

I have got a 1992 300TE mercedes have several questions for the start,
1) Gear shifts from 1st to 2nd and 3rd with a feel of the shift.
Is it commun ?what need to do ?
2) I would like to start the base line with serviceing all oils which oil for transimotion ,engine I should go with ? I was told that syntetic or semi syntetic or maybe the usual 20/50 ?
3)Is there a trustfull mechanic in my area ? south bay area SF ?

1) Despite the Daimler-Chrysler merger, your MB will not shift like a Dodge. You will feel the shifts in your MB. It's supposed to be that way.

2) Use the search feature of this forum and decide for yourself. Lots of reasons to use synthetic and lots of reasons to use conventional. No so many reasons to use semi.

3) Patrick Tan at Mercedes Select Service (935.8533) in Milpitas is very good but mostly a Diesel guy. There's a shop in Campbell but I don't remember the name just now.
