The problematic 722.6's are for just a couple model years and certainly don't effect all cars. Many of the problems are easily solved, and once sorted out, even the early build trannies can be long lived terrific units.

The 722.6 in "fixed up" form is proving to be very durable and long lived. There are many high mileage examples that are in perfect shape. When shopping for a 97 or 98 model I would look for a car that has some tranny updates.
