I've been perusing this great site and I've seen some excellent posts on this subject. I'm planning on doing the job this weekend (with my neighbor's help..ASE mech..)hmm let's rephrase this ...my neighbor's going to do the job this weekend while I stand there watching.... anyway, to make the job easier I was going to have him get the FLXM 13 Snap On tool mentioned in the other posts(if he doesn't have it already). From the other posts it appears this tool has a 13mm socket on the end? I'm puzzled because my H20 pump has what appears to be allen head bolts holding it on??? From what I can tell I do have the new style water pump. Am I missing something here?
Also any advice on this job such as pitfalls to avoid? My neighbor's a pretty accomplished wrench and has done a few of these but he doesn't concentrate soley on Mercedes so any advice would be appreciated! FL - try searching the arhives on this list.
Key in "FLX" in the search field. When I did this, 3 formers posts came up, The first was titled "300E Waterpump" by Benzmac. At the very bottom, Benzmac gives some pointers on expediting M103 H2O pump removal. The Snap-On tool/part number is also mentioned. Good luck. Mike Murrell Boerne Texas '91 300-SEL |

One thing is that on some models, they used all 6mm allen bolts to hold the pump on. On most there is 3 13's and 1 allen. Take a look and see.

Thanks for the responses! I read all of the posts for waterpump and FLXM tool but.... I looked and I do have all allen bolts (w/ my luck it figures)... any suggestions on "easy" removal?...are there any tools that are similar to the Snap On FLXM13 that have a 6mm allenwrench attached? Or am I stuck w/doing this the long way e.g. removing/loosening everything instead being able to do the simplified removal described by Benzmac?

Snap-On has a small universal 6mm allen that is built into one socket. I use it with a specail extension that has a little bit of wobble on the end of it too. This will give just enough room to do the job. I use a 3" extension for this because if you get too long, it will stretch and break.
Good luck ------------------ Benzmac: Donnie Drummonds 1992 500E (very soon I hope ![]() 1981 280GE SWB ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
