Do the AT need to be drained before the mod is replaced? When I went to ajust the mod the other day there was AT under the cap.

There is extensive discussion on this topic. Try the search button in the top right and use something like "modulator and fluid" in the search field. Also, to help you better, I recommend always identifying the year and model of your beast.
