Why MB Windshield Washer Fluid?

Why should I add MB Windshield Washer Fluid?

What is special in MB windshield washing system?
Why not ommercially available premixed windshield washer?

===================
In the manual (1992 300D):

MB Windshield Washer Concentrate "S" and commercially available premixed windshield washer solvent/antifreeze

1 part "S" to 100 parts solvent
(40ml "S" to 1 gallon solvent)

my experience

On my '87 I added regular blue ww fluid. My ww fluid level indicator float would sink in the blue fluid, and leave the low fluid light on all the time. I bought the $3 tube of mercedes mix and mixed it with water, the level indicator float would now work. I tried this with the float removed in 2 buckets to be sure. It may be my float is old and not as bouyant as it should be.

Because it works, well. I use green 20/20 premix + a tube of the MB stuff or 303 Instant Windshield Washer Tablets with great results. Definitely better than using nothing. I live in Seattle and battle constant misty conditions and short days in the winter, so clean windshields are important to me. Wurth also makes a very good concentrate, but still is better with the MB stuff in there.

I think you're mistaking what MB is telling you to use. You are supposed to use "commercially available", aka "store-bought" washer solvent of your own choosing, and they want you to add this "Concentrate S" (there also used to be "Concentrate W" also, but they are both now replaced by a single product, "VR" and 4 numbers.....9022?). MB doesn't sell washer solvent, just this concentrate, which is basically a soap product which they say will improve the cleaning of the wipers.
