124 climate control unit
Is it to be expected that every 4-5 years one must replace the climate control unit in the 124? There is already a re-built unit in it now, but it is starting to malfunction.
Is one brand of re-built unti any better than another? Thank you - RMF |

You need to test current draw on the auxilliary water pump. This is the most common cause of failed CCU's. The auxilliary water pump must not draw more than 1.3 amps. If it does replace it or you will knock out the CCU.
Good luck, |

Larry - thank you. The auxillary water pump? Is that the electric motor "thing" by the windshield washer fluid container?
I have never had much success with testing electrical equipment. Another dumb question - do you check the unit while on the car with the ignition on, or does the engine have to be running? If it is drawing more that 1.3 amps, could the CCU already be fried? It has been acting strange for some time. Never does it continually, just intermittently. Have just lived with it and figured will have to replace unit in the future. Thanks again for the reply - RMF |
