Question SL300 code 17

The check engine lamp on my 1990 SL300 came on and the diagnostic code read 17-Oxyegen Sensor. Since I have 68,530 miles on the vehicle, it looked like time to change it anyway. After changing the sensor (purchased at the dealer for $178) I reset the code. Three days later it came back. Can anyone tell me if I missed something? Thanks.
