The ignition lock in my Daughters '81 300D began giving problems. I messed with the lock and finally got it to turn. Once it turns, as long as I leave the key in the switch, everything is fine. Once I take the key out I have to jimmy with it for awhile until it turns again.
I took the lock cylinder out of a parts car. The cylinder worked perfectly in the parts car, but the problem did not go away in the 300D after changing the lock. Am I faced with replacing the entire steering column to correct this? Thanks for any help offered, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 523K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |
