97 C230 running rough when cold
I have a 1997 C230 that has an issue with running while the engine is cold.
It hesitates to accelerate when first started but runs great after the engine is up to temperature. I don't live in a cold climate (Southern Arkansas). It was about 55 deg out the other day and I had to drive about 1/2 mile before it smoothed out. Is there a temperature sensor somwhere that adjusts the fuel injection that might be non-functional? Any other ideas?? Thanks!

Have you owned this car since new?
And you are familiar with the engine transmission relationship that warms up the catalytic converter by holding the car in low gear until temps are hit? |

I was not aware of the transmission/engine relationship. That clears things up quite a bit.
It does hold the car in low gear but the engine also hesitates like it is not getting proper combustion. Thanks!

What you describe - hesitation - is a normal attribute of the catalytic converter warm-up procedure.
Another tip, change the engine airfilter every year ( or if that is too often ) in half the recommended time described in the Service booklet. GREAT CAR! |
