shifting problems
Hello people I have a couple problems one is when I shift into reverse I have to rev it to 3000 or more RPMs to get it to engage. Once it is in reverse there are no problems it stays in gear and reverses fine. My second problem is the fluid in my load leveler has leaked or somehow is gone from the resevoir. I know it is hydrolic fluid but what type and also when I add it how do I bleed the sysytem to remove the air. These problems are on a 89 560 SEL thanks for any help.

Check your tranny fluid, it sounds as if it may be low. Otherwise, a fluid and filter change are in order.
The hydrualic fluid for the self-leveling is best bought here on FastLane or from a dealer. while it's not exactly exotic, you don't want to do any damage to the system. check the rear struts for leaks, also the tubing connections. The fluid has to be going somewhere, and I'd bet the accumlators are rock hard and have beated the struts to death, hence the leaks. Hope for a bad connection or leaking line, the struts are expensive! Peter

Time for a transmission tech to look at it then. Might just be a band needing adjustment, might be a bad tranny.
