I am looking to get a tune up on my 97 e420 here in a few weeks. What does a tune up consist of on my car and also is there any higher performance alternatives to these parts? I would like to buy all the parts (off fastlane of course) beforehand. Thanks

"Why do I have to be Mr Pink"?

The concept of a "tuneup" disappeared with ignition points 25 years ago. If you look at the maintenance schedule in your owners documentation you will see recommended change intervals for spark plugs and fuel and air filters. These are regular maintenance items.

Other "tuneup" type items like igntion wires, cap and rotor (if equipped) are generally good for well over 100K miles, but should be inspected for proper function if the engine exhibits problems.

I use OE Bosch Super Plugs and Bosch filters. They can be procured at less than MB prices through aftermarket sources.
