Hi all: I have a 93 500SEL. Each time I put it in reverse and put my foot on the foot brake there is a distinct grinding noise coming from the left front wheel. After I stop and put the car in drive the rubbing noise diminishes until I tap the brake at which time is goes away. It does not grind at all going forward. Anyone have some idea what this might be. Thanks..Al.

It sounds like a brake pad is hitting the rotor or there is a rock inbetween the pad and rotor. I have seen both.

It sounds like one of the pads is moving around. Check the caliper and make sure the locator springs are all inside the arch of the caliper.
