interchangeability of 190 tranny

There a transmission for sale on Ebay for a 190E seller claims will fit 190 from 84 to 91 but when I look up rebuilds they show 6 different tranny numbers for different years and engines for the 190 from 722 403 to 722 409 any info? looking for one for an 85 2.3.witch I thinks takes the 722 400 will any of the other numbers fit the 85........thanks.......

Thanks a bunch so then I assume that there would be a slight difference and that a 408 would not work in a year/model that shows a 413?........

I would say that it would work.

The differences in most variation of the 722.4 trans were internal improvements. I wouldn't put one out of a diesel into a gas car but even it would make the car go down the road. Except for changes in the output flange on later versions, I would imagine all would bolt in.
