om 617a help
Hi, just need a little advice on reassembling my om617a (from an early 80's 300 turbo diesel). I can't find any starting point for locating the injection pump sprocket relative to TDC when installing a new timing chain. I had difficulty getting the chain out and in a dumbass move rotated the sprocket and didn't punch a ref. mark. Also, is it extremely difficult to rebearing and seal the turbo? Apperantly the engine (allthough low miles) was run upside down starving the crank(replaced) and turbo(rebearing due to excessive radial play?). I can't detect any other damage. I am swapping it into my Unimog, and my experience with diesels is weak. Any other thoughts and advice is appreciated.

here we go
do a "timing injection pump" search on here. You will need to remove the injection pump. Once you do it you will be amazed at how simple it is.

turbo
Any ideas on redoing the turbo? I can move the compressor over far enough to bind on the housing approx .010"-.020" using the thumb dial gauge.
