Comand sotware update S430
The battery on my 2000 S430 was recently replaced by Roadside Assistance. It took them about 10 minutes flat to do the swap.
Since the above my Comand Nav system seems not to find where I am. (I call her Dora ..very nagging voice). On routes where I have travelled before it indicates that I am "Off Road" and to proceed to the nearest road. Could the battery replacement have something to do with this?. (Recently when I had my wife's ML55's battery replaced the dealer indicated that it took almost 1 hour 30 because of downloads. It seems my firm/sotware date is 09/99. I have obtained a MYOB02 CD. When I start the download process to upgrade, it indicates to start the head unit. On the console it indicates "No Tape". I inserted a blank casette thinking that it might need this for backup. Any Ideas?. My dealership is 50 miles away otherwise I would already be there. |

OK, there are a few steps you need to go through to start the process, it's not as easy as just inserting the disc.
Did you get instructions for doing the update? It can take up to an hour, depending on your present software status and the number of upgrades that have already been done, if any. I would recommend the dealer do the upgrade. Are you sure it's the latest version disc? On the off-road map and so forth, the MOST common cause for problems is the antenna. In the upper corner, when the car is outside and the NAV is on, are you getting the emblem that shows that you have locked on to satellites (looks like a ball with semi-circles underneath the ball), or you can also go into "service" and it'll actually tell you how many sat's you are receiving. I'd start there first. The only other thing I can think of is maybe you lost the info in COMAND on your tire size? This is critical that it's entered, if the info is gone it can really screw things up, especially if you experience long periods when you can't get satellites, like in tunnels or in parking ramps alot, things like that. In those times the COMAND requires accurate wheel speed info (including knowing the tire size) to do dead reckoning navigation. Gilly PS: No, the tape deck has no effect on the update, no relation at all. |

Comand S430
Gilly,
The first thing I did when I started having the problem was to calibrate the tire size. Thanks for your info. Fortunately I don't have a long trip planned in cities that I have not been in before for a few months and maybe I should take it to the dealer. I just hate having something not working and want a fix now!. My nature. (I am from South Africa and do not know US cities too well so the NAV system is an incredible help....Not so when Dora thinks I am lost though). Jana in my wife's ML55 has a much sweeter voice. Deon. S430. (Family Vehicle) ML55. (Wife's) 328iS. (Daughter's) 996 Targa. (Mine when the weather is good) Mitsu 3000 VR4. (Wife's other car) 2 Grand Cherokees. (My company vehicles) Need more garaging. |
