If I am going to adjust the valves on my '84 300D 'Euro,' will I need to remove the intercooler (for the turbo) in order to turn the engine manually? The Haynes manual is vague and incomplete (as if you didn't know), and does not seem to specify just how the engine is turned.

Didn't know that M-B was using turbo intercoolers back then in Euro W123s. Where is it installed? I'm assuming that this is an OM 617.9xx engine. Any idea what the factory-rated HP and torque were?

I'm not sure of the HP and torque with this car, and sadly, I've not driven other 300D's to make an apt comparison. But relative to a 240D I had a few years ago, it's a veritable slingshot on wheels. The intercooler sports a tangled viscera of large hoses, and an additional radiator to cool the oil for the turbo.

I'd like to see a picture of that! Sounds interesting.
