ah of course.
hmm, this problem coulnt be the cold start injector staying open could it? if so, where is this? also what about anything from this post? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=81694&highlight=cold+start+injector one other thing, if i connect my 190 to a diag machine, is it gonna be able to tell me anything at all, unless the ecu has stored any fault codes? A 190 had a "dumb" computer and will not store codes, and to get any info out of it you must have the MB tool that plugs into the diagnostics socket (round, with a screw-cap, on the left fender).
You are running over-rich, and will have to find out why. It could in fact be a defective cold start valve -- check it for drips with the engine off after a cold start. It "plugs" into the idle control valve right up on the manifold in the center of the engine. It could, however, be a badly out of adjustment fuel mixture or a bad fuel distributor, and you will have to have the correct tools to find that out -- pressure tester, duty cycle meter, etc. If you cannot do this yourself, you will need to have a service technician look at it. well i wondered about the fueling, yet about 2000rpm it runs fine, no signs of pinking as i said (although this is not under load)
As it is a dumb computer, what information will it give? it would be very nice to be able to just slap it on a daig machine and it wil tell me the fault as in newer cars, but of course i dont expect that. Also, is the idle control valve the cylindrical item above what looks to be the throttle flap (huge round flap which opens with the throttle (much bigger and different to the peugeots im used to)) with the wire plugged into in and a breather (presumably) pipe running to it? Also, something which might or might not be important. WHen i try to start it after its stalls, (when its obviously flooded) i crank it over for quite a while (say 30 secs) and when i stop blue smoke comes out of the throttle flap. is this the engine releasing pressure that has built up in the cylinder? it makes a kind of "phut phut phut" noise? sorry for the terrible description |

I have the exact same problem...I have changed out the fuel pump relay (worked when it wanted to), changed idle air control valve, changed plugs, wires/rotor/distri cap less than year old, replaced fuel filter, replaced fuel pressure regulator (was missing the vacuum line connected to the idle air controler), nothing helped. The fuel pump is a bit loud when I turn the key to #2 position before cranking (buzzing/humming noise). I checked compression on all 4 cylinders and readings were 1:150psi 2: 150psi 3:151pis 4: 150psi and read that 145-175 was within specs. I have a post running for this problem at 190rev's forum and I have them stumped so any help would be great. I have to keep her at 1.2k-2k rpms to keep her alive in drive gears. Coming to stops of any sorts is nerve racking as I have to shift into neutral and keep rpms up while applying the brake (not safe to 2foot drive an auto). And shifting into drive at 1300rpms doesn't do very any good to the tranny. I'm taking her into the shop tomorrow and hopefully they will be able to tell me the problem...if they do I will post the results here and on 190rev.
p.s. its a '87 Mercedes 190E 2.3L |
